Mad Maldon Mud Race

Postby miss_weasley on Mon Oct 29, 2007 11:59 am

Just to let people know I will be undertaking the Mad Maldon Mud Race again this year - it will be my fourth time.
There are three charities supported by the event, and contestants have the option of giving all their sponsorship to those charities, or splitting it 50-50 with a charity of their choice.
I shall be splitting mine with SDBTT/Team Graeme.
For all you northerners who have no idea, the race takes about 40 mins - though the winner does it in about five! - and is through thick, smelly mud. 90% of contestants manage to stay on their feet only for the first tiny stretch, and then the rest is completed on hands and knees. It is one of the most exhaisting, stupid and hideously messy things I have ever had the misfortune to carry out. But it is so very English and raises a lot of money.
If anyone is interested in sponsoring me, I will let you know how to nearer the time.
Photos of me drowning in mud will of course follow...

Here is a pic of Miss Weasley (4th from left) and her team after the last mud race (you wouldn't catch many northerners doing something as stupid as this but hey, each to their own...)

Fun in the mud

This event sounds like it is worth going to watch. When is it? I think Team Graeme should go and cheer or laugh at everyone. I think that northerners aren't invited because we would find it too easy.

My editor last year thought it was easy.... right up until the point when his youngest female reporter - moi - had to ask the rest of the team to wait while she went back and dragged him out. She and another guy then helped him to the finishing line...
It takes place on Sunday December 30th at 11am. About 6,000 people turn up to watch it - and it is usually covered on Sky tv and the following week on ITV. Anyone is more than welcome to come and watch... or even take part! But need to know soon for entry forms.

These are photos from my second year doing the race... Just look at the relief on all our faces at the end of it! And donate generously :-)

Mudlarks

The photos are great but unfortunately we will not be able to go and see this year's event since we shall be away. I ams ure Rachel would ahve volunteered. I imagine it is highly entertaining. The weather looks beautiful on the day the pictures were taken but the end of December could just as easily be cold.

How do we know it is really you on the photos? Everybody looks identical when they are all covered in mud.

I will look into sponsoring you.
